This month Phoenix Technologies® in Pasadena, CA, celebrates 40 years as the pioneer in computer firmware solutions, as well as over 20 years as the global leader in PC performance and security software. iolo technologies®, the makers of System Mechanic®, merged with Phoenix Technologies in 2013 to capitalize on the natural synergy of Basic Input-Output System (BIOS) expertise and operating system (OS) performance optimization.

Many people may not be aware that the same company that optimizes and protects their computer at the core system level also optimizes and protects their OS. Installed when a computer is manufactured, BIOS is core system software programmed into read-only memory at the level before the OS launches. This "firmware" is used by the microprocessor to boot the system and manage data flow between the OS and the hard drive, keyboard and other attached devices. It also uniquely secures the device at the lowest possible threshold to prevent hacks, breaches or other types of data security risks.

With over one billion units installed and deep relationships with leading semiconductor chip manufacturers and technology resellers worldwide, Phoenix has been a key innovator in the development, optimization and distribution of core system firmware and software since 1979.

The important role of Phoenix in the launch of the computing industry itself is undeniable. Phoenix is the original independent BIOS provider and is also a founding member of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface Forum. UEFI is an alternative to BIOS that may one day replace it. Phoenix also continues to drive innovation in leading-edge firmware security initiatives; the Internet-of-Things (IoT) embedded technology market; and customized, time-sensitive engineering services.

July also marks the launch of System Mechanic Ultimate Defense™, the premier version and latest evolution of iolo¨s award-winning optimization software, System Mechanic. System Mechanic has won the PC Magazine Editors¨ Choice award for best optimization software eight years in a row.

In one convenient product dashboard, System Mechanic Ultimate Defense delivers protection from a wide array of modern threats to PC health and security, including password hacks, credit card theft, spying on your online habits, personal data selling, reputation compromise, ad-trackers, accidental file deletion, sensitive data theft, malware invasions, Windows security holes, bloatware and startup bottlenecks, and PC slowdown induced by needlessly running background apps.

"Phoenix has been at the forefront of innovation for the PC industry since our inception in 1979," says Phoenix CEO Larry Gill. "We are extremely proud that 40 years later, we continue to set the standard for core system firmware and software technology, quality and expertise."

Influencer marketing is a multi-billion-dollar industry. It's used by both big brands and small businesses alike. The recent release of a new document and videos, which highlight marketing disclosure requirements by the FTC [Federal Trade Commission], indicates the importance of this channel.

The last guidelines released by the FTC were back in 2017. This time the updated document educates marketers on how to ensure that consumers are aware of advertising relationships. Interestingly, the FTC avoids technical jargon in the document. They even include short videos with easy to understand information!

We strongly recommend that you check out the article and accompanying guide; "Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers". This way you won't have anything to worry about regarding potential problems with the FTC. It's always better to be safe than sorry!

Below is an excerpt from the FTC article.

FTC Releases Advertising Disclosures Guidance for Online Influencers

New document, videos summarize how to ensure consumers are aware of advertising relationships

The Federal Trade Commission has released a new publication for online influencers that lays out the agency¨s rules of the road for when and how influencers must disclose sponsorships to their followers.

The new guide, ＾Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers,￣ provides influencers with tips from FTC staff about what triggers the need for a disclosure and offers examples of both effective and ineffective disclosures.

The guide and accompanying videos underscore that the responsibility to make disclosures about endorsements lies with the influencer. The guide outlines the various ways that an influencer¨s relationship with a brand would make disclosures necessary, and it reminds influencers that they cannot assume that followers are aware of their connections to brands.
